Baghdad, Dec.16 (AKnews) – A member of the leading National Coalition (NC) said on Thursday that the formation of parliamentary committees will be postponed until the Iraqi government is formed to prevent them from being headed by MPs who belong to the same bloc as the relevant Ministers.
Haidar al-Yasiri told AKnews that the political blocs agreed on the need to ensure that the ministers and parliamentary committee heads come from different factions in order to safeguard the impartiality of the watchdog role of those committees.
“The nomination process for the committees will begin next week and will be distributed fairly among the political blocs,” Yasiri said.
President Jalal Talabani officially assigned, on November 25, the NC’s Nouri al-Maliki to form the government within the constitutionally decreed 30-day period. In a Baghdad press conference following his nomination, Maliki announced that the new government formation would be made public by mid-December.
