BAGHDAD — An Iraqi Central Bank official says per capita income in the country is projected to more than double within the next four years as a result of a sharp increase in Iraq’s oil output and higher market prices for oil, RFE/RL’s Radio Free Iraq (RFI) reports.
Majid al-Suri, a Central Bank economist, told RFI that per capita income in Iraq is expected to reach some $10,000 by the end of 2015 compared with about $4,500 at present.

The decision to place independent bodies under the ministerial council is moving forward as Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki called on heads of independent bodies to set a timeline for the progress of their programs similarly to the 100 day deadline he set for his Cabinet.
Al Maliki stressed the necessity to reach a political consensus inside the Parliament in order to dissolve provincial and municipal councils and hold early elections.
As part of the reform campaign he announced two weeks ago, Prime Minister Al Maliki revealed a mammoth investment campaign worth of 70 billion dollar to rehabilitate infrastructure.
Iraqi Parliament is positive about this plan, he said.

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq – The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Iraq, Ed Melkart, has highly hailed the response by the Iraqi government and the Parliament for the demands of Iraqis, expressing the UN’s anxiety towards the incidents, which he described as “violations for human rights.”
“The Iraqi Parliament and government’s decision to open a dialogue with the civil society organizations in Iraq, aimed at responding to the demands raised by the Iraqi people, along with the support granted by all Iraqi parties for the improvement of basic services, are encouraging steps, that must be followed by radical changes to create an environment of stability and trust,” Melkart said in a statement on Wednesday.
