US Diplomat heads to Baghdad tomorrow to discuss the extension of U.S. forces

Baghdad (news) .. A source at the Foreign Ministry said the diplomat and former U.S. ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad will visit Iraq on Sunday to discuss a range of issues concerning Iraq and the region and the U.S. military in Iraq.

The source added in a statement (of the Agency news) said on Saturday: “The diplomat and former U.S. ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad, will visit Baghdad on Sunday morning, where he hoped to meet with President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

Saturday, April 9th 2011 8:19 PM Baghdad, April 9 (AKnews) – The Kurdistan Blocs Coalition (KBC) said Saturday that the leaders of the political blocs will meet soon to resolve the file of security ministries and activate the initiative of Kurdistan Region’s President Massoud Barzani.

MP Shwan Taha Mohammed told AKnews that the political blocs must resolve on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (the date for convening the parliamentary meetings) the issue of the security ministries.

The Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who is running the security ministries, postponed submitting the candidates for these ministries for more than once to the parliament, due to the disputes between the political blocs and even within the same bloc about the nominated names.

Cairo, April 9 (Rn) – An Iraqi representative to the Arab League, Saturday, that the university decided to hold an emergency meeting of its Council at the level of permanent delegates headed by the Sultanate of Oman on Sunday to discuss the current Arab situation.

Said Qais al-Azzawi told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) “The meeting will discuss the latest developments in the events of the current Arab and files Libya, Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Palestine.”

AP: UN envoy urges Iraq’s leaders to address demands for jobs, services, accountability

The U.N. envoy to Iraq urged the country’s leaders Friday to address the legitimate demands of protesters for jobs, services and accountability.  Ad Melkert warned that unless the government tackles these demands, Iraq’s political and democratic gains so far “may seem hollow to ordinary Iraqis.”

He told the U.N. Security Council that “this will be no easy task for the government of Iraq.”   Melkert said the unfolding events in the Middle East and persistent calls for change “are of major significance.”

A member of the parliamentary energy commission Friday that the oil and gas law in its current form does not separate functions between the Ministry of Oil and the Federal Council is expected formed after the promulgation of the law, and the Commission is working on the separation of their functions.

BAGHDAD (Rn): I declare the Kurdish coalition blocs, today announced a meeting of leaders of political blocs soon to resolve the file security ministries and activate the Kurdish regional President Massoud Barzani. The MP said the coalition of Kurdish blocs Chuan Mohamed Taha told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) that “the political blocs in front of this week, precisely on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (the date for convening meetings of the House of Representatives) to resolve the issue of the security ministries, which is long overdue.”

And for Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who is running the security ministries and agencies to provide candidates for these ministries for more than once to the House of Representatives, due to the differences between the political blocs and even within a single cluster of names put forward.

The UN Secretary General’s Special Representative in Iraq, Ad Melkert, has said on Saturday that Iraq still needed continuous attention under the current challenges, despite fact that it had witnessed a clear progress during the past few months.

“Whilst the country had witnessed a clear progress over the past few months, but there are still a number of challenges, despite fact that Iraq had achieved broad progress in its democratic transformation over the past few years,” Melkert told a UN Security meeting.
