Schumer is preparing to reintroduce legislation aimed at forcing China to raise the value of its currency.

China urged U.S. lawmakers not to damage relations between the two countries by seeking “excuses to start trade protection,” following moves to reintroduce legislation aimed at forcing an appreciation in the yuan.

“The exchange rate isn’t the major reason for trade imbalances,” Hong Lei, a spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, said at regular briefing in Beijing today. “We urge relevant senators of the U.S. government to see the importance of Sino-U.S. relationship clearly, don’t seek excuses to start trade protection, and avoid damage to the big picture of Sino- U.S. trade and economic cooperation.”

South Korea’s won fell to a three- week low as Europe’s deepening debt crisis cooled demand for emerging-market assets. Government bonds gained.

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou will reshuffle his Cabinet and seek a confidence vote today, battling to control a shrinking majority and push through austerity measures demanded by international lenders.

The political turmoil came as European Union talks on forging a new bailout to prevent the first euro- area default stalled.

The Swiss franc strengthened through 1.20 per euro for the first time as investors sought the safest European assets amid mounting concern that European officials will fail to contain Greece’s debt crisis.

The franc extended its run as the best-performing of 16 major currencies tracked by Bloomberg for the year to date. The Swiss National Bank will keep its benchmark interest rate at 0.25 percent today, according to all 26 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou said yesterday he would call a vote of confidence in Parliament, while Moody’s Investors Service said it may downgrade French banks because of their investments in Greece.

UN’s leading political official concludes Iraqi visit

Erbil, June 15 (AKnews) – The head of the UN Department of Political Affairs General B. Lynn Pascoe left Iraq yesterday at the end of a three-day visit.

During his visit Mr. Pascoe met with the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other leading officials in Baghdad, Kirkuk and Erbil.

During all of these meetings, Mr. Pascoe is said to have reiterated the UN’s commitment to offering assistance to Iraq and looked at ways of improving efforts to meet the needs of the Iraqi population.

Foreign Ministry confirmed completion of all actions required to move towards an effective mechanism for post-Development Fund for Iraq, which expires upon the supervision of the UN this month. He said Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, in a speech to the Security Council, “that Baghdad has taken all necessary arrangements including the allocation of five percent of oil revenues to the Compensation Fund.”

Maliki confirms the existence of about 20 of the Ministry of extra support Trchigaha

Exiled TBI Boss Denies Allegations – Open Letter from Bank’s AdvisorThe exiled former head of the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI), Hussein Al-Uzri [Hussein al-Azri], has denied allegations of corruption and mis-management in a telephone interview with Reuters.

“It’s about control of this bank,” the U.S.-educated banker, aged 48, told the news agency in his first media interview since fleeing Iraq. “Having control of the bank gives them control of substantial assets and they can basically utilize it.”

For his own security, he did not want to say from which country he was speaking.

A top Maliki aide, cabinet general secretary Ali al-Alaq, has said authorities moved against the bank because its leadership was suspected of violating banking regulations and issuing improperly secured loans. Alaq said the irregular practices had cost the country “millions of dollars.”

Alsumaria News publish the specific law to replace the members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives No. 6 of 2006

I got “Alsumaria News”, Thursday, a copy of the law to replace the members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives No. 6 of 2006, approved by the Presidency of the parliament in the session held on the 11 of July in 2006, based on what passed the Council in accordance with paragraph I of Article 61 of the Constitution Iraq and the provisions of paragraph V of Article 138 of the Constitution.

The law provides for the end of the membership of the deputy in the parliament after assume a member of the House position in the presidency or the Congress or any other governmental position, or in the event of illness or disability or disability prevents the member from performing his duties in the Council over the term of the session and to prove it means fundamentalism.
