Baghdad, Sept. 27 (AKnews) – The leaders of the political blocs will most likely meet in the upcoming days in order to discuss Iraqiya List’s candidates for the Ministry of Defense, according to Iraqiya spokeswoman Maisoun al-Damlouji.
Iraqiya List, led by former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi had submitted the names of nine candidates for the ministry to Iraqi President Jalal Talabani in August, so that Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki could chose one of them.
Allawi and his party repeatedly criticized Maliki and his government of delaying this part of the Erbil Agreement.
The Erbil Agreement ended an eight-months deadlock after the last elections in March 2010. It basically says that Maliki may remain Prime Minister but Allawi, who won the election, would head the new National Council for Strategic Policies (NCSP). Also, the three important security ministries — Security, Defense, Interior — would be split between the parties.
Today, with the NCSP still not created and the three ministries still run by Prime Minister Maliki himself, parties criticize Maliki of violating the Erbil Agreement.
