Governor of Basra: UN envoy asked to intervene to resolve the issue of Mubarak Port

BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq: Basra governor behind Abdul-Samad, Monday, that the province demanded that the UN envoy during his visit today to Basra, to intervene to resolve outstanding issues with neighboring countries, especially Kuwait for construction of a port Mubarak, while the UN envoy said that the most important work of the mission remove Iraq from Chapter VII.

In June 2011, the Special Inspector General for Iraq reconstruction released a quarterly report that noted $6.6 billion in rebuilding funds went missing in 2004. The media exaggerated the story, saying that corrupt officials might have stolen the money. That led the Iraqi government to threaten to sue the United States to recover any misappropriated funds. The Inspector General however, always said that it was probably a case of bad record keeping, which was endemic at the time. Now it has conducted an audit that found that most of the money ended up in the Central Bank of Iraq, under Baghdad’s control.

BAGHDAD: Iraq’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth should rise to nine per cent in 2012 from around 6pc currently, mainly driven by an expected increase in oil production and exports, a senior central bank official said yesterday.

Iraq has some of the world’s largest oil reserves and is currently producing about 2.9 million bpd. High oil prices have helped the country earn billions of dollars more than projected this year.

“It will easily jump to 9pc next year, it will not be difficult. If production and exports in the oil sector rise, it is possible to reach that figure,” Iraqi Central Bank deputy governor Mudher Kasim said. (more…)

Baghdad, Nov.1 (AKnews) – The Baghdad International Fair opened on Tuesday with 780 local and foreign companies from 17 countries present. Many Arabic companies were absent from the event, opened by the Iraqi Trade Ministry.

The Arabic companies stayed away because of the events taking place in the region, Sadiq Sultan the general director of the Public Exhibitions Company told AKnews.
