UN Iraq’s representative visits Kuwait next week

BAGHDAD, Nov 21 — UN Secretary General’s special representative in Iraq Martin Kobler said Monday he would visit Kuwait soon to discuss outstanding issues between Baghdad and Kuwait.

At a news conference after a meeting with Iraqi senior Shiite cleric Ali Sistani in An-Najaf, Kobler said he “will visit the State of Kuwait next week to discuss Iraq’s exit from Chapter VII” of the UN Charter.

Iraq is yet to address sticky issues like the missing Kuwaiti and third country nationals, return of national archive, paying compensations and maintenance of border signs. (more…)

Baghdad, Nov. 21 (AKnews) – The Iraqi Central Bank (ICB) will produce new denomination bill as well as coins in both Arabic and Kurdish languages. The 50,000 dinar notes will hopefully address the liquidity issue in Iraq, halting inflation, the ICB said on Monday.

Deputy chairman of the ICB Dr Muzher Saleh told AKnews the largest denomination bill in the country is 25,000 dinars and its purchasing power does not exceed $23. (more…)

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: An Iraqi Legislature has called Monday on the US Administration to play its role in the UN Security Council and the United Nations, to exclude Iraq from the UN Charter’s Article 7, imposing economic sancations against the country.

“It is the duty of the United States of America towards Iraq to strive seriously on the International level to exclude Iraq from the sanctions imposed by the UN Charter’s Article 7 and to cancel the UN Security Council’s Resolution 833 of 1993, that is not valid anymore against Iraq,” the Legislature of the White al-Iraqiya Bloc in the Iraqi Parliament, Aliya Nuseif said in a statement, copy of which was received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
