The United States plans to retain more than 700 American forces in Iraq after the US withdrawal from the country by the end of December 2011.

According to Iraqi officials, Baghdad had reached an agreement with Washington to allow 740 so-called US trainers stay in the country after the December withdrawal deadline, Lebanon’s Daily Star newspaper reported on its website on Wednesday.

The Working Group on Trade, Debt and Finance will organize in Geneva a seminar at the end of the first quarter of 2012 on the economics of the relationship between exchange rates and trade – especially the impact of the one on the other, said Working Group Chair Martin Glass of Hong Kong, China. He said that the issue of existing WTO rules and currencies will not be taken up at this seminar.

The two-day seminar will have four sessions dealing with the different dimensions of the topic, with participation from the private sector, governments, international agencies and academia. (more…)

Baghdad, November 25 (Rn) – The economic adviser in the Iraqi government said Friday that the visit of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki scheduled for next month in Washington will focus on the economic aspects, particularly the protection of Iraqi funds.

Said Abdul Hussein Al Jabri told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) that “the visit of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to Washington will focus on the protection of Iraqi funds in and out of Chapter VII and the development of Iraq’s dealings banking.” (more…)

Baghdad, November 25 (Rn) – A spokesman for the Office of the Adjutant General of the Armed Forces, Major General Qassim Atta Friday that Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki ordered construction of the “security fence” around Baghdad early next year in an attempt to prevent the sequence of the gunmen.
