9 December 2011 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed György Busztin of Hungary as his Deputy Special Representative for Iraq focusing on political, electoral and constitutional support.

He succeeds Jerzy Skuratowicz of Poland, who served with the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for two years. The Secretary-General thanked Mr. Skuratowicz for his dedicated service and commitment to the people of Iraq.

KUWAIT: An Iraqi political movement recently urged the Iraqi government to contact Kuwait and members of the UN in an attempt to get Iraq out of the UN’s charter chapter VII.

The Iraqi Accord Movement member and MP, Abdul Khedher Taher said that Iraq must seize all possible opportunities to get out of chapter seven by contacting Kuwait and other influential UN members to provide assurances that Iraq is leading in a more ‘civilized’ way. WASHINGTON: International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde yesterday said economic growth in the Middle East and North Africa must include all members of society to fulfill the promise of the Arab Spring. Iraq Improves Rank in Corruption IndexIraq has improved its position in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index from 4th worst to joint 8th worst.

This places it ahead of Somalia, North Korea, Burma (Myanmar), Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Sudan, and on a par with Haiti.

The improvement is to praised, but being behind countries such as Venezuela, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zimbabwe, is hardly cause for celebration.
