The UN Security Council has called on Iraq to step up efforts to normalise ties with neighbouring Kuwait, still recovering from the Saddam Hussein-era invasion.

UN envoys are looking for greater progress in helping pin down the fate of Kuwaitis and other foreigners missing since the 1990 war.

Is Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki — suspicious eyes, wary demeanor, brows furrowed by years living in the underground — really the face of today’s Iraq? Unfortunately, the answer is yes, and America helped make it that way.

Maliki’s visit to Washington this week has been a time for taking stock of Iraq eight years after the U.S. invasion. What did America achieve in overthrowing Saddam Hussein and battling a stubborn insurgency? It brought a democracy, yes, but one shaped by the most basic and sometimes brutal facts of life — allegiance to tribe, sect, clandestine organization.

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Let the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq and United Nations Development Programme, Wednesday, a media campaign in Baghdad to raise awareness about the judicial system in Iraq, under the umbrella of the United Nations Development Programme “Support to the rule of law and justice in Iraq,” which is funded by the European Union, According to a statement of the UNAMI (UNAMI).

BAGHDAD (Iba) .. A source at the Iraqi Central Bank of the existence of sharp differences between the governor and some of the leaders of the Bank of the general managers.

The source, who did not disclose his name, told the independent press (Iba) said differences centered on what he described as corruption files related to appointments and high salaries, nepotism, in addition to the expulsion of some contract employees outside the bank.

He is also the subject of some controversy regarding the policy of the Central Bank of the current towards the other banks and currency auction conducted by the bank every day, without elaborating further details.

Said the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Thursday, in the voting electronically to six bills during today’s session, the most prominent of which was a bill of accession by Iraq to the International Convention for the suppression of acts of nuclear terrorism.
