Cairo, January 1 (Rn) – The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation that a delegation of Egyptian economic Alaftaat will visit Baghdad next week to find what it called agreements with Iraqi officials and various Iraqi companies.

Last month the Central Bank of Iraq co-hosted a conference with USAID’s Iraq Financial Development Project on “Integrating the Banking and Financial Services Sector in Iraq.” This event, which was held in Istanbul from November 18-19 covered two upcoming changes to the payments system that have the potential to revolutionize Iraq’s banking sector.

The first is the introduction of a “national switch” for processing credit card and ATM transactions. The switch—essentially a router and some specialized software—will connect all of Iraq’s ATM machines and credit card point-of-sale scanners to a common platform. At present, each card-issuing bank operates its own system. Because not every point of sale is connected to every system, no one card will work everywhere. Baghdad, December 31 (Rn) – new Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Saturday, his call to the international community to support Iraq out of Chapter VII, after successfully taking out U.S. troops and the restoration of its sovereignty.

Full numbers for Iraq’s November 2011 oil exports and profits were finally released, and showed a rebound on all counts after a two month dip. The price for Iraqi crude went up along with exports, leading to a rise in revenue for Iraq last montn. Despite this, Iraq’s production has still hit a plateau due to infrastructure limitations, and the country is having problems paying foreign companies that are responsible for the increases.

As reported before, Iraq’s oil exports rebounded in November after going down for the previous two months. In November, the country shipped an average of 2.13 million barrels a day, compared to 2.08 million in October, and 2.10 million in September. Last month’s average was not as high as August however, when Iraq exported 2.19 million barrels. The price of one barrel of Iraqi crude also increased from $104.43 in October to $106.59 in November. Baghdad, January 1 (Rn) – The Iraqi ambassador in Kuwait, Sunday, that Iraq had agreed in principle with Kuwait on Iraqi traders grant visa to Kuwait during the Iraqi Chambers of Commerce – Kuwait.

Said Mohammed Hussein Bahr al-Ulum, told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) that “Iraq and Kuwait had agreed initially to grant visa to enter the Iraqi traders through Alkotah Iraqi Chambers of Commerce to promote trade between the two countries.”

He added that “the return of Iraqi businessman to the Kuwaiti market will enhance the historical relationship between the two countries and will contribute to address the political problems between them and the final elimination of the consequences.” (more…)

U.S. President Barack Obama Saturday signed into law tough new sanctions targeting Iran’s central bank and financial sector, in a move likely to deepen acrimony between Washington and Tehran.

The measures, meant to punish the Islamic Republic for its nuclear program, were contained in a $662 billion defense bill, which officials said Obama signed despite reservations about its impact on Iran policy and detaining terror suspects.

“The fact that I support this bill as a whole does not mean I agree with everything in it,” Obama said in a statement, citing limits on transferring detainees from the U.S. base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and requirements he notify Congress before sharing some defense missile information with Russia as problematic. BAGHDAD, Jan.1 (AKnews)- Iraqiya List lawmakers and ministers will not end their boycott unless the Iraqi government fulfills the demands of the List, an Iraqiya leader said today.

It is almost two weeks that Iraqiya deputies have staged the boycott in protest to lack of “real” partnership in political process and what they described as “unilateral ruling.”

Hamed Mutlag told AKnews that Iraqiya List decided to boycott sessions of the House of Representatives and Council of Ministers over a host of issues which will be resolved in the expected meeting of political blocs’ leaders.

Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has called for an emergency national conference which will be held soon. In the meeting the political blocs are to find resolutions for the crisis created by recent tensions. (more…)
