House of Representatives discusses Saturday 19 read law and completed the General Budget for 2012

Parliamentary source, Sunday, the Iraqi Council of Representatives will be completed during its 14-second chapter of the second legislative year, which will be held next Saturday, read the General Budget Law for 2012, in addition to first and second readings of 19 law.

The source said in an interview for “Alsumaria News”, “House of Representatives will be completed during its meeting of 43 of the second semester of the year the second legislative session next Saturday (21/1/2012), the second reading the draft law to the federal budget for fiscal year 2012″, noting that “The session will also discuss the lending staff, and the first reading the draft law to amend the law on seizure of contraband No. (18) for the year 2008, the draft law on ratification of the provisions of the Convention on the Regulation of electronic signature in the field of electronic transactions between the Arab countries.” (more…)

Syria will introduce a managed float of its currency next week, central bank Governor Adib Mayaleh said. The move will allow the pound to devalue after demand for foreign currency drove a surge in black-market rates.

“We will have a partial managed float, allow the rate to be determined by the market and intervene when necessary,” Mayaleh said in a phone interview from Damascus today. “If we see a rate, like that of 70 pounds now, which I don’t like, then we will intervene, and next week there will be a positive intervention by the central bank with the injection of foreign currency into the market.”

General Motors sees the Mideast, including countries like Iraq, as a market with huge potential for growth.It’s a mostly forgotten story, but GM once planned to build a factory in Iraq. And it’s a mostly obscure statistic, but the company has finally started moving the metal there.

As former GM executive Warren Browne recalls it, the factory was going to produce mid-sized cars, probably Malibus. To hustle the project along, there were five dozen Iraqi engineers working at company headquarters in Midtown.

Iraq to Grow 36% in Three YearsThe World Bank says it expects Iraq’s gross domestic product (GDP) to grow by 12.6 percent in 2012, and 10.2 percent in 2013, following a growth of 9.6 percent last year.

If achieved, this would give a compound growth of 36 percent in just three years.

This follows a downward revision of growth expectations for the world as a whole, with the global economy expected to expand 2.5 and 3.1 percent in 2012 and 2013 (3.4 and 4 percent when calculated using purchasing power parity weights), versus the 3.6 percent projected in June for both years.

VietFinanceNews.com – Vietnam is forecast to have GDP growth rate of 5.7% in 2012, compared to the government’s target of 6.0-6.5%, HSBC Global Economics Research Team wrote in its Macro Asian Economics Q1/2012.

HSBC Global Research said:

Despite sluggish global growth and challenging domestic conditions, Vietnam’s growth momentum has been impressive. GDP expanded 6.1% y-o-y in 3Q 11 (versus 5.7% in 2Q 11) thanks to robust exports and domestic demand. We expect GDP growth of 5.8% in 2011 and 5.7% in 2012 (the government’s target is 6.0-6.5% for 2012). (more…)

Consumer prices will rise less than 12 percent at worst and about 8.5 percent in a “good” scenario, central bank Governor Nguyen Van Binh said on Jan. 12. Inflation in the $104 billion economy was 18.1 percent in December. The dong will depreciate 2 percent to 3 percent this year, Binh said.
