The following is a cursory glance at the six nations which comprise of the GCC and how it compares to Iraq.  The six nations which is made up of Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia indicate exchange rates ranging from about $0.27 USD upward to $3.61 USD and averaging $1.61 USD.  The economic indicators primarily reflect conditions as of 2010.

In a continuing effort to improve relations, Iraq and Kuwait signed a first-of-its-kind memorandum of understanding on trade on Tuesday (January 3rd), which allows companies and businessmen to travel between both countries without visas.

Officials and trade experts in both countries welcomed the initiative that seeks to expand trade and stimulate economic co-operation.

BAGHDAD – AFP – The United Nations envoy to Iraq, told AFP that Iraq and Kuwait, thinking to re-invest the remaining war reparations on Baghdad for the benefit of its southern neighbor, the Fund invests in Iraq.

Iraq continues to pay five per cent of its oil revenues to meet the $ 18 billion dollars in compensation by the residual of Kuwait.

BAGHDAD: Iraq and Kuwait are considering a plan to pay the war reparations which Baghdad still owes its neighbour into a fund for Iraqi investments, the UN’s envoy told AFP on Sunday.

Iraq, which pays five percent of its oil revenues into a UN reparations fund, is required to hand over another $18 billion (13.92 billion euros), the bulk of it to Kuwait.

World Bank study completed for the restructuring of Rafidain and Rasheed Iraqi government, and that he expected the government decision to implement the study.

The Iraqi Parliament is scheduled to discuss in its Monday session the draft-law for the country’s Federal Budget for the year 2012, along with several other draft-laws, including the draft-law on the rules for the nomination of the President, according to a Parliament’s statement.

“The Parliament shall resume its discussion of the Federal Budget for the year 2012, along with the organization of the draft-law for the nomination of the President and the the nomination of one or more than one Vice-Presidents for the country,” the statement, as was received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency, stressed. CAIRO, Jan. 22 (AKnews) – Undersecretary of the Arab League Ahmed Bin Hilli is on way to Iraq at the head of a high level delegation to make sure preparations for the next summit to be held in Baghdad in March are in place.

Iraq’s representative to the Arab League Qais al-Azzawi told AKnews that Bin Hilli will meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Foreign Minister Hushyar Zebri and a number of top officials in the country to discuss the procedures and final preparations ahead of the League’s next summit that’s expected to be held in Baghdad in March.

The Arab League summit which was originally scheduled to take place last year has been postponed several times as a wave of protests swept across the Arab countries in the region.
