KARBALA, Feb. 29 (AKnews) – The Australian ambassador to Baghdad said her country supports the withdrawal of Iraq from the United Nation’s Chapter VII sanctions, adding that she visited Karbala to discuss investment opportunities.
Lyndall Sachs said in a statement during her visit on Monday: “Australia strongly supports the withdrawal of Iraq from Chapter VII, especially that it applied all its obligations by the International Security Council and the United Nations.”
A decision on Chapter VII is expected to be made by the UN Security Council in June. (more…)

Cairo, February 29 (Rn) – The Ambassador Mowaffaq Mahdi Abboud, president of the Department of North and South America in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said Iraq completed all preparations for the Arab summit, including the preparation and rehabilitation of facilities and buildings that host the summit and its guests as well as the security preparations and logistics.
Iraq and sent five ministers to the Arab countries to deliver a formal invitation from President Jalal Talabani to the leaders and the leaders of Arab countries to attend the summit of Baghdad. (more…)

The economy is set to expand 12.6 per cent this year, according to the IMF, the fastest rate in the Middle East and North Africa.
It is this speedy growth that is catching the eye of investors, to the extent that EFG-Hermes, the biggest publicly traded Arab investment bank, has started offering an equity-swap product linked to Iraqi securities.

Erbil, February 28 (Rn) – Iraq demanded Tuesday of the United States formally extended the protection of its funds abroad for another year.
Iraq had last year formed committees to undertake the task of recovery of Iraqi funds in a number of countries after the adoption of the law of recovery of Iraqi funds abroad by the House of Representatives.
The UN Security Council voted unanimously in mid-January on the last three resolutions concerning the lifting of the embargo imposed on Iraq on the import of nuclear material for peaceful purposes and cancel the oil for food program. (more…)

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said on Sunday that the process to re-evaluate the Iraqi dinar has to do with economic conditions that have to be strengthened.
"The Iraqi dinar has all the reasons to grow stronger thanks to an increase in revenues and development of the economy," Maliki said in response to some questions through the National Information Center.
