Kuwait Times: Economists divided on Iraq compensation proposal

KUWAIT: Several economists noted that the recent visit of Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri Al-Maliki, was of great importance as it provided a clearer vision and new methods to solve the lingering problems between the two States.

There were various beneficial outcomes from the meeting, especially in regard Kuwait Airways and its compensation of nearly $500 million through a direct $300 million payment, with the additional $200 million set to be turned into an investment in establishing a joint Kuwaiti-Iraqi air company as a joint venture. This solution has been on the table for years but was politically obstructed. Now, the joint interests between the two countries calls for the solving of problems so that the concentration of both can be on development and mutual interests. (more…)

Baghdad (NINA) – Informed source said that Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has agreed on a nominee presented by Iraqiya slate for the post of Minister of Defence.

The source, who refused to be identified, told NINA on Monday, Mar. 19, that Maliki has agreed on one of the nominees presented earlier by Iraqiya slate to hold the post of Minister of Defence and he will sent his name to Parliament to be voted on in its next. (more…)

Required to activate the Tariff Act in Iraq

Arbil, March 19 (Rn) – Economic Commission renewed its claim to the parliamentary Monday Iraqi Council of Ministers to create the basic introductions to the activation of the Tariff Act.

The Iraqi Finance recently decided to activate the Tariff Act in Iraq as of June next after Tagelin row.

According to the parliamentary economic committee that activation of the tariff will provide additional financial revenue to the state treasury could be invested in the revitalization of agricultural and industrial sectors, but economists believe the futility of activating the law.

Research and Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari today with Deputy U.S. Treasury Secretary David Cohen, the U.S. ambassador in Iraq, James Jeffrey and his accompanying delegation relations, Iraq – U.S. and Iraq’s international obligations.

Baghdad, March 19 / March (Rn) – The Iraqi Ministry of Finance, on Monday, to its potential and its ability to pay the amounts agreed to by the Government of Iraq with Kuwait, and special Iraqi Airways and $ 300 million in cash, at the time called on the government to accelerate in finding the formula for investment amounts the remaining $ 200 million.

Jazeera Airways: Iraq agrees to flights between Kuwait and Najaf during the next six months
