Expected Council Action
The funding for the activities of the High-level Coordinator who advises the Council on the Iraq-Kuwait missing persons and property issue, is due to expire in mid-June. The Council is expected to receive a report on the issue, pursuant to paragraph 14 ofresolution 1284, and a briefing in consultations by the coordinator, Gennady Tarasov. The Council is likely to issue a press statement on the coordinator’s activities and supporting the extension of the coordinator’s funding.

The Council is also expecting the second report of the Secretary-General, pursuant to paragraph 6 of resolution 1956, on the post-Development Fund for Iraq (DFI) mechanism. At press time it was not clear if the Council would consider the report in June.

The mandate of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) expires on 28 July.

The government has slapped a 50% tax on all goods entering Iraq. The rule is to come into force by the beginning of July this year.

The decision has raised fears of a substantial hike in all foreign goods entering the country. With the Iraqi industry still in shambles, the surge is bound to affect almost all commodities in Iraq. (more…)

Knights of hope Western diplomatic source said that Vice President Joe Biden Alamarki will arrive in Baghdad within days to resolve the crisis between the Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and the outskirts of Erbil, demanding the withdrawal of confidence from it. (more…)

Baghdad, June 2 (Rn) – The Commission on economy and investment representative, on Saturday, it will examine the government’s request to postpone the customs tariff and will have a stand of it, revealing some of the benefit of speculators and the neighboring countries not to activate the law.

The Iraqi government has demanded in 28 of the month of April last the House of Representatives be patient as the application of tariff law to be working by the beginning of the month for non-completion of the foundations necessary for the successful application of the law. (more…)

The Iraqi Central Bank said that “the end of the month June next year will determine all debts to Iraq and see the real amounts.”

He said the Bank’s Deputy Governor Mohammad Saleh appearance on “unreasonable and unacceptable continuing claim to extend protection to Iraqi funds abroad since mid next year will resolve this entire file”. (more…)

Arbil (news) .. MP for / Kurdish coalition blocs / Sherif Soliman, that the President will deliver the request to withdraw the confidence to head the House of Representatives for a vote the application within the parliament, adding that the alignments of new between (Coalition and Iraqi Kurdistan and the Sadrists) capable of confidence.

ERBIL, June 2 (AKnews) – Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani will ask parliament speaker Osama Nujaifi today to withdraw confidence from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, said a source from Iraqiya List.

The unnamed source told AKnews: “The votes have reached the legal quorum to withdraw confidence from Maliki.”

Head of Iraqiya List Ayad Allawi said in a press conference: “Our work priority is stability and security for Iraq, supporting democracy and law and developing the economy of the country.”

ERBIL, June 2 (AKnews)- Today Iraqi President Jalal Talabani will ask Osama al-Nujaifi, speaker of the House of Representatives, to conduct voting on withdrawing confidence from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, a source said.

Since the required number of MPs (164) has signed to withdraw confidence from Maliki, the president will order the voting, an informed source form the Iraqiya List who demanded anonymity said. (more…)
