ERBIL, June 10 (AKnews) – Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki today called on the “political partners” to sit together to discuss the differences and outstanding issues, praising the role of President Jalal Talabani in resorting to the constitution.
A statement posted on Maliki’s official website stated: “The challenges and the nature of the positions and developments that the country passed through recently have proved that the only way to overcome the obstacles is resorting to the constitution and following its mechanisms.
“The constructive role [carried out] by President Talabani in this aspect, according to his responsibility as protector of the constitution, had an important role in passing this stage and consolidating the democratic experiment and making it more coherent.”
Maliki expressed his “thanks and appreciation to all those who helped to put things straight…”
The statement added: “I renew the call to all political partners to sit at the table of dialogue to discuss all the differences that all the papers and initiatives included amid national responsibility and strive to find solutions and move towards the construction process, including the state-building process and the construction of its institutions on constitutional basis and expedite the provision of services to citizens.”
The PM also expressed his “thanks and appreciation to all citizens who have followed with interest and sometimes with concern the latest developments and to invite them to be always at this level of care and awareness because they protect us and the country from falling into hardship.”
