The number of Iraqis under poverty line has been reduced to 16% of the country’s population of more than 30 million people from 23%, said Labor and Social Affairs minister.

Iraqi President Jalal al-Talabani has threatened to step down if Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is given a vote of no confidence.

Talabani issued his warning in recent letters, he wrote to the President of Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Massoud Barzani, former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Osama al-Nujaifi as well as Mustafa Yacoubi of the nationalist Sadrist Movement.

Sources told (people): President Jalal Talabani and Iranian figures entered on the window line and improve the atmosphere of reconciliation between Maliki and rivals indicating that the mediators extracted pledges from the Prime Minister for political reform and democracy and to achieve a real partnership with other powers.
