UNSC Report on Iraq: July 2012

Expected Council Action
The Council is due to receive the Secretary-General’s report on the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and a briefing on its contents and developments in the country from Martin Kobler, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of UNAMI.

The Council seems likely to extend the mandate of UNAMI, which expires on 28 July.

The Council also expects the second report of the Secretary-General on the post-Development Fund for Iraq (DFI) mechanism. At press time it was unclear whether the Council would consider the report in July.

Many doubt that removing the zeros on the Iraqi Dinar will strengthen its value.

As per a plan by the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), new banknotes will be printed and introduced into the market starting from the beginning of 2013. The new banknotes will have three less zeros and the text and design will be modified as well. (more…)

Baghdad (news) .. According to a member of the Finance Committee MP / Kurdistan Alliance / Najiba Najib, that the new Iraqi currency will include three languages (Arabic, English and Kurdish).

said Najib (of the Agency news) said on Tuesday: The new currency will be issued in three languages Arabic, English and Kurdish as stipulated by the Constitution Iraqi that the two official languages are Arabic and Kurdish. (more…)

Baghdad (News) … Economic analyst said Abdullah Salem Al-igaily, nice ability of the Central Bank to lower the value of the US dollar against the Iraqi dinar during the coming period, expected to price stability (1189) dinars.

He said Al-igaily (the news agency news) on Wednesday: that the country’s monetary policy faces great challenges by neighbouring States, particularly under the international economic embargo as Syria and Iran, and the Central Bank had proved successful and its ability to maintain the value of the national currency in astray these pressures. Euphrates Chairman of Committee for the economy and investment parliamentary Ahmed Alwani that the application of customs tariff law will have positive returns reflected the economic reality of Iraq.

He said al-Alwani in a press statement received by the agency {Euphrates News} a copy of it today that “activation code customs tariff correctly reflect the reality of the Iraqi economy through higher continued good treasury the federal public on the one hand on the other hand will help to direct the state to pay attention to the governorates of non-oil and development” . Reached the Minister of Transport Hadi al-Amiri today to the State of Kuwait.

BAGHDAD, July 16 (AKnews) – The oil and energy committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives stated Monday that three main points hinder the adoption of the controversial oil and gas law related to the ownership of the oil wealth and its management.

Committee member Furat al-Sharei said: “The Kurdistan Blocs Coalition (KBC) and Iraqiya List support the management of oil wealth through a federal office whose director is chosen in the Council of Representatives by voting while the government demands of voting for the director in the Council of Ministers. Low inflation indicators for Iraq in the month of June

revealed the Ministry of Planning reported a decline in new indicators of inflation during the month of June compared with the month of May the previous year.

The ministry said in a press statement that the inflation index dropped by (2 percent) during the month of June compared with May, who had witnessed a decline by ( 1.3 percent) compared to April 2012 (more…)
