BAGHDAD / NINA/ Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari met with the ambassadors of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council in Baghdad and Deputy Representative of the United Nations (UNAMI) in Iraq to inform them of Iraq’s situation and view to the discussions and deliberations currently under way for a new resolution in the Council about getting Iraq out from Chapter VII.

Iraqi Foreign Minister is a Chapter VII obligation to repay the $ 11 billion owed to Kuwait from the rest of the amount of compensation.

UNITED NATIONS – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recommended that the United Nations to move a step forward to the lifting of all sanctions imposed on Iraq for more than two decades after the invasion of Iraq, President Saddam Hussein of Kuwait in 1990.

Despite the overthrow of Saddam in 2003 after the US-led invasion of the United States, the United Nations did not fully lift the sanctions. And expelled forces led by the United States of Iraqi forces from Kuwait in the Gulf War in 1991. (more…)

UN Sec General call for end of CH VII sanctions against Iraq

UN leader Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday called for the end of the threat of sanctions against Iraq for its 1990 invasion of Kuwait amid a significant thaw between the neighbors.

Ban said both governments have shown “statesmanship and respect” in healing the scars of the invasion that led to the creation of an international coalition to expel Saddam Hussein’s forces. (more…)

Central Bank of Iraq, on Monday, received a formal letter from the Association of Banks confirms its commitment to the initiative of three banks as a first stage to sell the dollar at a rate lower than the price the advertiser, as pointed out that this initiative represents a “natural behavior”, which show him Iraqi banks, confirmed it complies with its monetary policy to support the Iraqi economy.
