Bahrain General Commends Military Ties With Kuwait

BAGHDAD: Iraq and Kuwait are cooperating in the search for Kuwaiti missing and properties, Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said Sunday.

“Cooperation of Iraq and Kuwait is ongoing for the search of Kuwaiti missing and properties,” Zebari said during a meeting with Beat Schweizer, ICRC’s representative in Iraq.

Zebari and Schweizer discussed outcome of talks between Iraq and Kuwait which were held within the joint commission that met last week, particularly the “humanitarian file.” Zebari and Schweizer discussed the activities and programs of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in Iraq, a foreign ministry statement said.

Zebari said a number of proposals were offered, during the commission meetings, to continue the search for the Kuwaiti missing and properties, even if it took the ICRC or UN supervision to help Iraq in that respect.

Both men, meanwhile, discussed the search for the missing Iraqis and Iranians in areas of Fao and Majnoon.
Meanwhile, Commander-in-Chief of Bahraini Defense Force Field Marshal Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmad Al Khalifa lauded in Manama, Sunday, deep military relations between Bahrain and Kuwait.

Meeting a visiting delegation of the Kuwaiti Mubarak Al Abdullah Joint Command and Staff College, Al Khalifa spoke highly of existing cooperation in the sharing of experience and cooperation in the military field.

He also stressed the significance of boosting military coordination and cooperation between both countries.

He noted now that the GCC member states are moving from just cooperation to the phase of a union, more efforts need to be exerted in order to ensure coordination at all levels, including military, with a view to notching up such an end.

The Kuwaiti military delegation is here for a one-week-long visit aiming to exchange experience and further bolster bilateral military cooperation.

BAGHDAD – Babinaoz (Reuters) – told the National Alliance MP Bahaa al-Araji, Iraq faces sectarian hatred by the Gulf countries including Bahrain and the external pressure in order not to the summit in Baghdad.

The MP said Bahaa al-Araji, a reporter and news agency future: “There are a number of excuses from some of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for failure to attend the Arab summit in Baghdad,” stressing that “the Arab summit in Baghdad is facing a challenge at the international pressure, which represents exam for diplomacy Iraqi” (more…)

Authorities in Baghdad announced on Tuesday the launch of a number of projects of the Arab summit scheduled for the end of next March in the Iraqi capital, saying at the same time on the readiness of Iraq to embrace the global activities in the home.

Iraq and isolated world in the nineties of the last century after the invasion of Kuwait and subjected to international sanctions package is still a clear impact on its economy and reputation in the region.

Iraq is trying to review his muscles very slowly in the region by hosting the Arab summit in its capital, but analysts have questioned the omission by the success of Bahrain to participate. (more…)

Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil el-Arabi that Arab delegation will visit Baghdad at the end of this month in preparation for the summit. He said the Arab from Muscat will be holding the annual Arab summit this year in Baghdad next March as scheduled.

The Secretary-General stressed that the summit will be held on time and that the study of the preparations for the summit is underway. And proceeded to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for a working visit to the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Bahrain on a tour aimed to consult with the heads of the kings of the Arab countries with the approach of the coming Arab summit and listen to their views on the great changes that have occurred in the Arab world, as well as to review the Arab situation of the current and future prospects of the process peace in the Middle East. Erbil, 12 October / October (Rn) – The Development Conference in the Iraqi market for securities business on Wednesday in Erbil with about 120 Iraqi businessmen and foreigners.

According to the supervisor of the Conference Abdul Chuan Kurdistan News Agency (Rn), that “the development of the Iraqi market for securities began its work today with the participation of some 120 Iraqi businessmen and foreigners,” adding that “the conference will continue for two days.”

KUWAIT: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah said yesterday that the Gulf tour, which he began on the same day in Saudi Arabia is aimed primarily at reinforcing relations and coordinating views on regional and international issues. In an interview with Al-Hayat newspaper, Sheikh Nasser said that he was looking forward to meeting with Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz in order to learn from his wisdom and long-sightedness.

The Kuwaiti premier expressed his country’s appreciation for the great support from Saudi Arabia and the Saudi king for the Kuwaiti people, particularly during the 1990-91 Iraqi invasion and occupation of Kuwait.

Baghdad – Member of the Iraqiya Slate, Fattah Al Sheikh, said “Iraq cannot pressure on Kuwaiti side to dissuade them from building the Great Port of Mubarak.”

Sheikh said in a statement on Thursday “we cannot exert pressure on the Kuwaiti side, because everything that is happening is against Iraq because of the government’s recent position regarding Bahrain and the unbalanced statements of the government in this regard, in addition to the rejection of the Gulf States of Maliki, personally, and considering him as persona non grata.”

Denied the Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, any confrontation between Iran and Iraq, and said that Iraq supports the steps the Egyptian government toward Iran, and even suggested that there be an Iranian-Arab dialogue.

Zebari said in an interview with the newspaper (Al-Ahram) Egyptian, said that “Iran is under way for the fate of Iraq .. the borders of Iraq and Iran length of 1800 km .. Relations have been tense for years .. and there was always an Iranian influence inside Iraq.”

Iraq spent $450 million [540 billion Iraqi dinars] in preparation for the Arab League Summit, which has now been postponed for a year.

The money was spent planting palm trees along highways, re-paving roads and restoring a palace of former dictator Saddam Hussein, according to a report from Reuters.

Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said on Thursday the summit had been postponed to March 2012 after being put off twice this year amid regional turmoil and animosity towards Iraq by some Gulf Arab states after it criticised Bahrain’s crackdown on Shia’ite protesters.

Basra, May 2 (AKnews) – The only land crossing between Iraq and Kuwait was shut down unexpectedly today, causing chaos and leading to claims the Kuwaitis are afraid of reprisal attacks after the killing of Osama bin Laden.

Safwan border crossing – 60 km southwest of Basra – was officially shut down by the Kuwaiti authorities in an unprecedented move.

Sulaimaniyah, May 2 (AKnews) – Foreign ministers from Arab states are expected to meet next week to decide on a new schedule for the postponed Arab Summit in Baghdad as the Arab world is rocked by a wave of protests.

As a result of the ‘Arab spring’ revolts some Arab states requested that the Summit – first scheduled for March 29 – be postponed until, at the latest, 15 May.

Sulaimaniya, April 28 (AKnews)- The Iraqi foreign minister, Hoshyar Zebari, will appear before lawmakers today, Thursday, to answer parliament’s questions over Baghdad summit controversy among other issues.

Rawaz Mahdi, a Kurdish deputy in the foreign relations parliamentary committee, told AKnews the Iraqi government allocated a “huge sum of money” for the summit; however there seem some deterrents for holding the Arab summit in the Iraqi capital.

Cairo, April 27 (AKnews)- The meeting for Arab foreign ministers over Arab League Summit in Baghdad will be held May 8, Iraqi representative to the league said Tuesday.

The talks aimed at concluding a vote over postponing or canceling Baghdad summit was due to take place on May 15. The summit, originally intended for March 23 was postponed to May 11 but now some countries are reluctant to attend the summit in Iraq.

The Arab League announced on Wednesday that its members have agreed to postpone its summit, scheduled for May 11 in Baghdad, amid disputes over the venue and popular unrest rocking the region.

Arab foreign ministers will meet on May 15 to set a new date, Egypt’s state news agency MENA quoted the deputy secretary-general of the Arab League, Ahmed Ben Helli, as saying.

The United States expressed its support for convening an Arab summit in Baghdad. Baghdad, April 17 (Rn) – The Iraqi Foreign Ministry Sunday that Arab foreign ministers will hold a meeting to discuss the crisis summit Baghdad, indicating that any development on the postponement of the summit or not did not happen until now.
