HA NOI – (VNS) Fake VND200,000 banknotes have been circulating in the market, the State Bank of Viet Nam said in a statement on Tuesday.
The fake banknotes, though meticulously printed, are less durable and elastic than the real polymer notes, so users can still distinguish them by the naked eye and by slightly tearing the notes’ edges.
In addition, the fake notes are also easily distinguished because they are not printed with optically variable ink (OVI). The ink, an anti-counterfeiting measure often used on banknotes, displays two distinct colours. (more…)

After much deliberation, the Iraqi government announced that, beginning in 2013, they will begin removing three zeros from Iraqi banknotes. The change will take three years to complete. AKnews reports that Iraq’s new currency will include three languages: Arabic, Kurdish, and English. It will also include archaeological features including those of the Kurdistan Region.

VietFinanceNews.com – The counterfeit money detected in the bank systems and state treasury in the first half of this year has seen a decline over the previous years, newswire VnExpress reported.
According to the State Bank of Vietnam, the amount of fake bank notes this year has fallen by 24 percent and 60 percent over 2010 and 2009.
Polymer bills account for 97 percent of the fake notes, 44 percent of which is VND50,000 notes while the VND100,000 bills take up 28 percent.

Julie Girard, spokesperson for the Bank of Canada, said the new polymer bills will be out in 2011.
OTTAWA – Canada’s new polymer bank notes will soon be unveiled said a recent report from the Bank of Canada.
The innovative new notes will boast updated designs and security features. The Bank of Canada is responsible for supplying Canadians with bank notes that they can use with confidence and our new polymer notes will be both easy to check and hard to counterfeit.
The $100 and $50 notes will be unveiled on the same day, but the issue dates will be spread out. The $100 will be issued this November and the $50 in March 2012. The remaining denominations—the $20, followed by the $10 and $5 notes—will be issued by the end of 2013.

BAGHDAD — The Iraqi Central Bank is planning to redenominate the national currency in an effort to ease transactions and allow people to carry less paper money, RFE/RL’s Radio Free Iraq (RFI) reports.
Mudhhir Muhammad Salih, a member of a Central Bank advisory panel, told RFI that a plan has been made to remove three zeros from the currency and phase out the current banknotes late this year.
Salih said by the end of 2010 the new banknotes will be fully introduced while the old banknotes will be gradually removed from circulation. He did not specify when the new notes would be issued.
