A report published by the BBC and the presence of 23% of Iraqis today live below the poverty line, indicating that they are in dire need of government support. Said the BBC in the report: that Iraq spent about 5 billion annually on food distributed to the population, and that on the west bank of the Tigris River in northern Baghdad, standing silo, one of the remnants of rare British rule in Iraq, has built the Hermitage during World War II for the purpose of feeding the British soldiers, and on the right on its side stand the structure of the longest of which was built in 1962 by the Soviet Union, when the Iraq deal briefly with the communist countries’ . By the end of December all 30,000 US soldiers must leave Iraq

As the 31 December deadline for the pullout of all the American troops from Iraq approaches, the BBC’s Gabriel Gatehouse in Baghdad asks what kind of a country Washington leaves behind.

“I’ve been here for over six years,” said John, a mulletted, moustachioed civilian contractor, driving a pickup truck through the dusty lanes of Camp Kalsu.

“I’m helping to do whatever needs to be done. Take it easy, see ya!” and with that he cranked up the volume on his iPod, plugged into the pickup’s stereo, and drove off in a blast of country and western.

Egyptian currency markets operate normally, according to Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Egypt Hisham Ramez told the BBC.

Ramiz said that the central bank had to intervene earlier this week to ensure the stability of the markets, but foreign investors have returned to participate in the speculation, and observers believe that the central bank had injected one billion dollars at least in the markets in order to maintain the value of the pound.
