Kuwaiti Ambassador to Iraq Ali believer that his country was seeking to remove Iraq from Chapter VII of the UN Security Council.

The insurer said Wednesday that “the results of the meeting leaders of Kuwait with Iraq at the highest levels and the meeting of the joint committees contributed to the issue of Iraq sought to get out of Chapter VII,” noting that “the seventh item remains under the umbrella of the United Nations is the decision-maker in this regard and we on our part we to get Iraq out of the jurisdiction of this item. “

BAGHDAD / NINA / Foreign Ministry Undersecretary, Labeed Abbawi said that “The Kuwaiti side is very cooperative with Iraq’s efforts to get Iraq out from Chapter Seven,” expecting “resolve the humanitarian’s file and border with Kuwait during the first half of this year.”

Abbawi told Al-Zawraa newspaper, issued by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate that “Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki had previously invited his Kuwaiti counterpart and he accepted the invitation.” (more…)

Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has met with Mr. Martin Kobler, Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UNAMI) in Iraq.

During the meeting they discussed the mandate of the UN Mission in Iraq and its role in helping Iraq, and the role of the Mission to assist in the upcoming electoral processes. They also discussed the developments in the political situation and the country’s need for a mechanism to launch national dialogue to address the crisis. (more…)

A statement issued on Wednesday, Jan. 9, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that in the meeting, Zebari praised Britain’s stance in the Security Council concerning putting an end to the mandate of the International Coordinator for the issue of Missing Kuwaitis.

Iraq public protests on Kuwait MPs agenda – Session to be held behind closed doors?

KUWAIT: While the parliament prepares for a special session on Thursday dedicated to discuss the security status in the country, one lawmaker believes that MPs should keep a close eye on the developments in Iraq in view of the public protests taking place there. “[The parliament’s] foreign affairs committee is monitoring the situation and plans to discuss it during the meeting,” rapporteur MP Tahir Al-Failakawi said, adding in statements to a local newspaper on Saturday that the panel “must open permanent channels with the Foreign Ministry to prepare for any development.”
