BAGHDAD, Iraq — After two days of meetings between Kurdistan’s Ministry of Peshmarga and the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, both sides agreed to a 14-point agreement.

BAGHDAD, Feb.10 (AKnews)- Funding the Sahwa Councils’ members from the national budget is “legal” due to the “significant” role the Councils played in securing the country, an official said today.

Amer Khuzayee, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s advisor for national reconciliation affairs, told AKnews that funding the Sahwa (Awakening Councils or Forces) from 2012 budget does not contradict with the Iraqi Constitution. (more…)

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Independent MP Hassan al-Alawi said that Premier Nouri al-Maliki is carrying “semi-insoluble dossiers” during his visit to Washington, pointing that the visit comes in its “right trend before US forces withdrawal from Iraq”.

Al-Alawi pointed out to Aswat al-Iraq that “there are pending dossiers, such as the present political crisis, the security situation following the withdrawal, immunity to trainers, latest developments on regions’ questions”, but he added that “the visit should come out with something new”. (more…)

BAGHDAD – Babinaoz: the U.S. military announced its intention to complete its withdrawal from Iraq by the end of this year, urged the member of the parliamentary Defense and Security to review and evaluate the security plans, and a second deputy said there were plans for a new stage after the withdrawal.

The informed source who demanded anonymity told AKnews Biden will arrive in Baghdad tomorrow evening for a one-day visit to discuss a number of common issues.

The visit is taking place after the U.S. President Barak Obama announced on Oct. 21, 2011 that the U.S. forces will completely withdraw from Iraq in accordance with the 2008 State of Forces Agreement (SOFA). (more…)

Iraq’s counterterrorism forces will lose critical intelligence and other specialized capabilities when American forces withdraw at the end of the year.

Some military analysts worry the withdrawal could jeopardize the success these forces have had in weakening al-Qaeda’s leadership in Iraq with daily raids on terrorist leaders.

“I believe there will be very direct and significant impact on our ability to conduct counterterrorism operations,” said Fred Kagan, an influential military analyst who helped formulate the successful “surge” strategy in Iraq in 2007, which involved sending in more U.S. troops to pacify the country.

Many Iraqis fear a post-American withdrawal, especially with signs of an unstable security situation in this country that Taatnahpha different problems. THI QAR / Aswat al-Iraq: US forces in Thi Qar province announced participating in the withdrawal process by transporting 700 soldiers and 100 military equipment to Kuwait , according to military spokesman.

Major Harold Huff told Aswat al-Iraq that “we are fully confident with the ability of Iraqi forces to control security and we will continue enhancing our partnership”.
