ERBIL, August 6 (AKnews) – Iraq’s deputy minister of labor and social affairs announced that 16 percent of Iraqis are unemployed and the ministry has plans to reduce this number.

ERBIL, Jan. 11 (AKnews) – Erbil Governorate is the most desired destination for foreign investment in 2011 with over $1 billion USD (1.1 trillion IQD) channeled into Kurdistan Region in 2011.
Erbil Governorate received the lion’s share, $1.26 billion USD (1.5 trillion IQD). That is about 57% of the $2.18 billion USD (2.5 trillion IQD) foreign money sloshing about the region according to a survey by Kurdistan Region’s Investment Board.
The remaining two governorates of Kurdistan Region, Sulaimaniyah and Duhok, each attracted $563 million USD (657 billion IQD) and $457 million USD (534 billion IQD) in foreign investments respectively. (more…)
SULAIMANIYAH, Dec. 25 (AKnews) – Figures show more and more foreign companies are willing to do business in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region.
The figures obtained by AKnews from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Trade and Industry show a 30% increase in the number of foreign companies registering in Kurdistan Region in 2011. Up from 331 companies in 2010 to 433 companies this year.
Dilzar Ismael at the ministry told AKnews that the process of registering foreign companies in the region is ongoing and more are going to come. (more…)

Erbil, November 21 (Rn) – The Iraqi Oil Ministry said on Monday it is awaiting a response from Exxon Mobil to letters sent by the government to the company on a deal signed with the Kurdistan region to explore for oil.
It quoted “Reuters” Iraqi Oil Minister Abdul Karim and coffee as saying that he and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who is currently visiting Tokyo and face letters to Exxon Mobil and awaiting a response. But he did not mention the content of speeches. (more…)

Sulaimaniya, April 8 (AKnews)- Thursday evening Erbil Bank opened its third branch in Sulaimaniya, the Kurdistan Region. An official from the private bank said in 2010, the back will be expanded by three more branches.
With the assistance of some businessmen and investors the branch of Erbil Bank in Sulaimaniya was launched, Amin Ahmed, bank council’s head said. The bank has been operating in Erbil, Kurdistan capital and also in Baghdad for some years.
