The Oil Ministry announced on Tuesday that Iraq’s oil production will reach sixty billion barrels in 20 years, while confirming that the expedition patches that were presented in the fourth round of licenses contain fifteen trillion cubic meters of natural gas.

Iraq exported 65.3 million barrels of crude in January

BAGHDAD – Iraq’s oil production is now over three million barrels per day (bpd), the country’s highest output since 1979, top Iraqi energy officials said on Monday in Baghdad.

“Oil production is now over three million barrels per day,” Hussein al-Shahristani, Iraq’s deputy prime minister for energy affairs, said in a speech at the oil ministry. (more…)

A member of the Oil and Gas Committee in parliament Dhari Ali Fayad, Iraq was moving closer to full membership in the International Initiative for transparency in the extractive industries after completing the requirements.

He said the Oil Ministry has implemented the requirements of the international initiative for transparency by announcing all the vocabulary and the requirements of full membership of the organization through the issuance of monthly data of all quantities of oil exports and the amounts realized from them, in addition to high transparency in the competition for licensing rounds.

Increased volumes and the higher price of crude oil pushed Iraq’s income from oil sales up by nearly 60 percent in 2011 compared to the previous year, according to AFP.

Oil ministry figures published on Monday showed that total exports of oil increased 15 percent to 790.5 million barrels of oil, or an average of around 2.17 million barrels per day (bpd), compared to 689.9 million barrels in 2010.

Prices rose by around a third, bringing in revenue of $82.988 billion in 2011, versus $52.2 billion the previous year. (more…)

Full numbers for Iraq’s November 2011 oil exports and profits were finally released, and showed a rebound on all counts after a two month dip. The price for Iraqi crude went up along with exports, leading to a rise in revenue for Iraq last montn. Despite this, Iraq’s production has still hit a plateau due to infrastructure limitations, and the country is having problems paying foreign companies that are responsible for the increases.

As reported before, Iraq’s oil exports rebounded in November after going down for the previous two months. In November, the country shipped an average of 2.13 million barrels a day, compared to 2.08 million in October, and 2.10 million in September. Last month’s average was not as high as August however, when Iraq exported 2.19 million barrels. The price of one barrel of Iraqi crude also increased from $104.43 in October to $106.59 in November. Iraq had signed contracts with international companies in the energy giant to develop 11 oil fields.

Although the Iraqi government expected the arrival of crude oil production to about 12 million barrels per day by 2017, but experts have questioned the access to the production of that goal, and they said that seven million barrels a day was a reasonable figure.

Iraq was not initiated after the law regulates the oil and gas due to differences on the management of oil wealth, even though imports of oil account for 95 per cent of the country’s financial budget. (more…)

Iraq’s oil production continues to see steady increases due to the work of foreign oil companies. The problem is that the country’s export infrastructure is at capacity, and cannot handle the recent rise. September 2011 was a perfect example, when the Oil Ministry announced a new post-invasion high in capacity, but a drop in exports.

In September, Iraq said that it had greatly increased its oil capacity, but that its foreign sales were down. The Oil Ministry told the press that its capacity had reached 2.95 million barrels a day for the month, the highest since 2003. Despite that good news, the Ministry said it had only exported 63.1 million barrels in September, which was down from 67.9 million barrels shipped in August. (more…)
