Erbil (AIN) -A delegation from the Iraqi central government headed by Falih al-Fayadh, Advisor of the National Security with membership of each of Tariq Najim, official of Premier’s office and, Maj. Gen. Babaqir Zibari, head of the Army Staff, visited Erbil on Sunday.

Announced by the Commission on Security and Defense Council of Representatives for near complete reading and legislation, the Convention on the security and military cooperation with NATO North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Committee Chairman MP Hassan Sinead, in a statement to the “morning”: that “referring the project to the House of Representatives means the agreement of the parties to the terms of the agreement. “Sinead said that” the cooperation agreement that will soon not include immunity for any element of NATO, “noting that” the document in force will expire by the end of the year and if the Iraqi government requested renewal will be renewed. ” (more…)

IRAQI Defence Minister, Saadun Al-Dulaimi will lead a delegation of up to five other ministers and 35 senior officials to participate in the inaugural Iraq Defence & Security Summit 2011 in Cyprus on December 7-8, it emerged yesterday.

The officials will also include the Chief of Staff, General Babakir Zebari and the heads of the navy and air force.

Accompanying the Minister will also be the Ministers of Interior, National Security, Communications, Science & Technology and Transport as well as their counterpart ministries from the Kurdistan Regional Government, reports from Iraq said. (more…)

SLC approves Bolani’s nomination for Defense Ministry

Baghdad, Aug. 14 (AKnews) – Former Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani’s al-Iraqiya nomination to hold the Defense Ministry has been hailed by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s bloc, the State of Law Coalition (SLC), as a “logical solution” to disputes over the post, praising at the same time Bolani’s professionalism.

Al-Iraqiya spokesman Haider Mulla announced the nomination of Bolani – a relative newcomer to the list – for the Defense ministry on Friday to the Iraqi media.

The SLC’s Abdul Hadi al-Hassani told AKnews that Bolani had proved his mettle when running the Interior Ministry “in difficult circumstances”, and that his nomination would win the support of the Iraqi PM.

KannaBaghdad, August 3 (AKnews) – Iraq’s political leaders agreed in a meeting last night at Iraqi President Jalal Talabani’s home, to put an end to an intense month of political disputes.

For the past few weeks, Iraq’s political process has ground to a standstill because of heated debates over the allocation of three key security ministries and the application of the power-sharing deal signed by the political blocs in December last year.

Though intensified of late, the frictions between the main players on Iraq’s political arena stretch back to the March 2010 legislative polls.

Crisis talks delayed due to religious ceremony

Erbil, June 27 (AKnews) – A meeting for the leaders of the political blocs planned to be held at Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has been postponed to next week due to it coinciding with a Shia religious ceremony.

Mohsen Sadoun, a Kurdish MP, told AKnews that the mourning of the death Imam Kadhim, a Shia religious figure, caused the delay of the meetings that were expected to be held this week. Many of Baghdad’s streets have been shut due to security fears around the event.

Baghdad, June 4 – The Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said on Saturday that the concept of national partnership was a good one, but if it failed, the majority must take control.

Speaking at a memorial service for the Shia political leader, Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim, who was assassinated in 2003, Maliki said that all Iraqi blocs must assume their responsibilities.

“We are in a national partnership government,” he said, “It is unacceptable that there is partnership without responsibility.”

Political blocs agree to submit to the security ministries candidates one package

A source close to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki agreed between the political blocs to provide candidates with a single transaction security ministries based on political consensus. There was convergence of views between the political blocs, political blocs presented new names for security bags. The coming days will see these names. The source stressed that special State of law Coalition National Alliance committed to candidates for Ministry of Interior and national security.
