Baghdad (AIN) -The parliament Economy and Investment Committee discussed including Iraq in New York Agreement for 1958.

The parliament’s Media Office reported “The parliament Economy and Investment Committee held a meeting on last Sunday headed by MP Mohammed Salman, Vice-Chairman of the Committee in presence of representatives from the Ministries of Planning, Trade and Finance and the Supreme Judicial Council as well as a delegation from the US Trade Ministry.” (more…)

Iraq’s third poorest Arab country after Yemen and Sudan

BAGHDAD / JD / .. U.S. magazine developed specialized, Iraq ranked third in the list of the poorest Arab countries, led by the only Yemen and Sudan, noting that Iraq’s per capita GDP is estimated at about $ 4271.

Cairo, September 22 / September (Rn) – The Permanent Mission of Iraq to the Arab League, on Saturday, said Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari will represent Iraq in the meetings of Arab foreign ministers scheduled on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations at its new sixty-seventh on Wednesday in New York.

The representative of Iraq to the Arab League, told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) that “the Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari will participate in the meetings of Arab foreign ministers on Wednesday with their counterparts from other South American countries, as will be Chairman of the meeting as head of the current Arab summit,” noting that “the meeting focus to discuss preparations for the Arab summit – planned South American in Lima at the beginning of next month. ” (more…)

NEW YORK: The United States must stand up to China to prevent Beijing from taking unfair advantage in trade through its currency policy, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said today.

“They continue to try to game the system to their advantage and our disadvantage,” Clinton said after a speech to The Economic Club of New York.

“I think it’s appropriate and fitting and timely for us to be standing up and saying, ‘This is not acceptable.’”

The Meeting was co-chaired by the Indonesian Foreign Minister, H.E. Dr. R. M. Marty M. Natalegawa, and the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates, H.H. Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahayan. Alsumaria News / Baghdad criticized the Iraqi List, Saturday, a speech by President Jalal Talabani to the General Assembly of the United Nations because it focused mostly on the territory of Kurdistan, stressing that the Iraqi parliament is given the confidence of the post and not Kurdistan.

The MP said the Iraqi List, Ahmed al-Jubouri said in an interview “Alsumaria News”, “the President of the Republic is the symbol of the state and was supposed to President Jalal Talabani, when he delivered his speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations at its sixty-sixth to speak on behalf of Iraq and Iraqis, and not on behalf of the Kurdistan region on the basis of the Constitution, and keep away from regionalism and party, which has long heard hesitated before officials in international forums. “

On the sidelines of the meetings of the sixty-sixth session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, met with President Jalal Talabani at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York on Friday 23/09/2011, with the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Nabil Arab.

During the meeting, attended by Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and other officials, was a review of developments in the Arab region, with President Talabani, the right of people to make fortunes in the atmosphere of freedom, democracy and dignity, pointing to the need to avoid anything that might ignite the fire of strife Ahli.

Excerpt from today’s speech:
…”We were able to get rid of the sanctions and restrictions imposed on Iraq as a result of the invasion of Kuwait. Based on Security Council Resolutions 1956, 1957 and 1958, adopted on 15 December 2010, Iraq has been freed completely from all of the restrictions imposed on it which have prevented the country from benefiting from scientific and technological advances, and Iraq has gained its sovereignty in regards to its financial resources. After this important stage in building the state, we feel that we are taking firm steps on the road of democracy and development and that we have a bigger need to open the doors of investment in Iraq. Therefore, the economic policy of Iraq is based on encouraging investments and providing the appropriate legislative environment to protect investors and their capital, so Iraq can become a safe and fertile investing environment in many essential sectors, such as oil, natural gas, electricity, reconstruction, infrastructure and other economic sectors…”   - President Talabani, September 23, 2011 (more…)
