BEIJING — France and China have agreed to discuss how to work toward easing Beijing’s controversial currency controls and making its yuan freely traded, the French finance minister said Friday.

The two governments agreed during a visit this week by President Nicolas Sarkozy to Beijing to work on the issue ahead of a Nov. 20 meeting in France of the Group of 20 major developed and emerging economies, Francois Baroin told reporters.

South Korea’s won traded near its strongest level in almost three years as optimism European leaders will break a deadlock over a new Greek bailout bolstered demand for riskier assets, helping emerging markets draw funds.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy reached a “joint position on Greece’s debt situation” before a summit today, according to Merkel’s spokesman. The euro rose to a one-week high versus the greenback. The won, Asia’s best-performing currency of the year, may be supported before South Korea’s government announces measures to rein in inflation next week.

Asian currencies advanced, led by Malaysia’s ringgit and South Korea’s won, on optimism Greece’s creditors will agree to extend the nation’s debt maturities.

The MSCI Asia-Pacific Index of regional stocks gained before Greek lawmakers vote tomorrow on budget cuts and asset sales needed to get future financing. France is working on a plan to roll over 70 percent of Greece’s debt, President Nicolas Sarkozy said yesterday. Taiwan will raise borrowing costs this week and South Korean inflation accelerated in June, according to economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

G8 France 2011 Deauville, France- Likening it to the fall of the Berlin Wall that changed the face of Europe, G8 leaders ending an annual summit in France launched a partnership for North Africa and the Middle East that tied aid and development credits to political and economic reforms by states which have thrown off autocratic rulers.

The Group of Eight promised tens of billions of dollars in aid to Tunisia and Egypt on Friday and held out the prospect even more to foster the Arab Spring and the new democracies emerging from popular uprisings.

Detection Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations determined Jubouri, Thursday, to visit close by at the head of a delegation from the Arab and foreign investors to Baghdad in order to develop the Iraqi investment, pointing to the existence of positive indicators on the success of the peace initiative to end the crisis of Libya.

Libya no-fly zone call by France fails to get David Cameron’s backing – Nicolas Sarkozy calls for sanctions to be imposed on Muammar Gaddafi, but Britain fears UN resolution may fail to win support

Nicolas Sarkozy is leading the calls for a Nato-imposed no-fly zone to be enforced over Libya to “prevent the use of that country’s warplanes against [its] population”.

Sarkozy, the current president of the G8 and G20 economic forums, has also called for the European Union to impose sanctions against Libya and suggested that the assets of the family of the Libyan leader,Muammar Gaddafi, should be frozen.
