Baghdad / NINA /– Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki received in his bureau the commander of Central U.S. Army Forces Gen. Austin this afternoon.

An informed source said that the two sides discussed the process of arming the Iraqi army and cooperation in fighting against terrorism as well as discussed the Syrian crisis.

Called Iyad Allawi, leader of the coalition, the Iraqi List, the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to resign, saying that “it is best suited for early elections in Iraq.”

Allawi said, in remarks published today, it is very appropriate to hold early elections in Iraq and that the current government resigns, stressing at the same time the importance of the supervision of the United Nations on the electoral process. (more…)

Two Iraqi officials denied a television report that the parliament will be dissolved within 48 hours, leaving Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to govern as a caretaker.

Al-Arabiya television cited a statement it said was issued by the prime minister’s State of Law bloc. The report was disputed today by Khalid al-Asadi, a lawmaker who is a senior member of that bloc.

ERBIL, July 25 (AKnews) – The Iraqi council of ministers has approved a $500 million from the general budget to be allocated for resolving disputes with its neighbor Kuwait.

Iraqi government spokesperson Ali al-Dabbagh has said the council of Ministers has requested from the parliament to approve $500 million, $300 million form the 2012 budget and another $200 million from the 2013 budget, to be paid to Kuwait in order to end decades of disputes between the two countries.
