Parliamentary blocs agreed to vote on the draft general amnesty law in a session of the House of Representatives Monday.

Baghdad (AIN) –The parliament decided to lift its sessions till after Eid al-Fitr.

The Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, announced “Holding the next session on Tuesday, 28th of August.”

For his part, MP Arshad al-Salihi, of the Iraqiya Slate stated to AIN “The parliament will discuss the General Amnesty law draft after the holiday of Eid.”

Iraq’s government may soon shut down for much of the summer, says an article from Associated Press. A proposed law aims to shorten workdays and help public employees avoid soaring temperatures.

It will also cut work hours during Ramadan, which this year begins on 20th July, but the law would for the first time legalise the slowdown for the country’s government. (more…)

Reuters: Iraq inflation hits 7.6% in August

Iraq’s core annual inflation (which excludes expenditure on fuel) increased from 7.1 percent in July to 7.6 percent in August, according to Reuters, driven mainly by higher prices of food and clothes over the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Central Bank Deputy Governor, Mudher Kasim, told the agency that the higher price of gold in the local market and an increase in the cost of services had also pushed inflation up.

The Secretariat of the Council of Ministers said in a press statement that “the holiday of Eid al-Fitr will begin on Tuesday approved 30 of the current month of August and ends on Sunday, day on 4 of next September.”

Abu Dhabi, Aug. 21st, 2011 (WAM) — The Islamic Crescent Observation Project (ICOP) has said that Eid al-Fitr of this Hijri year 1432 will be on Wednesday, August 31st in most Muslim countries, considering that sighting of the moon is a condition for the beginning of the month of Shawwal.

In most of the Muslim countries which started Ramadan on 1st of August will have their twenty-ninth Ramadan, on August 29th and on that day the moon sighting is impossible from all regions of the Islamic world due to moonset before or with sunset, such as North and Central Asia including the UAE, Qatar , Bahrain, Kuwait, northern and central Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Levant and North Africa.

KUWAIT: The official Eid Al-Fitr holiday in Kuwait will last for five or six days depending on which day the Muslim holiday begins on at the end of August.

According to an article in a local newspaper, quoting a high-level government insider, the government is expected to announce a five-day holiday for public sector workers if the first day of Eid Al-Fitr falls on Tuesday August 30, but a six-day holiday if it begins the next day.

AMMAN – The practical steps and procedures regarding Jordan’s membership in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will take place soon, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh said on Sunday.

In an interview with the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Judeh said the first meeting regarding Jordan’s membership in the GCC will be held immediately after Eid Al Fitr.

In previous remarks, Judeh said the meetings would take place during Ramadan.

In May, the six-state bloc agreed to expand their regional grouping to include Jordan and Morocco.

Arbil, August 4 / August (Rn) – urged the President of Iraq Jalal Talabani, the Iraqi political forces to stop the campaign of accusations and skepticism in the media and all that would disturb the agreement reached by the political blocs days before on the contentious issues and the U.S. presence.

Reduce working hours during Ramadan one hour

The Prime Minister, government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh on reducing working hours in ministries and state institutions all through the month of Ramadan.

Dabbagh said in a press statement on Sunday, attended by public opinion news agency that the government decided to reduce working hours in government departments, one hour means that the end of official working hours will be at one in the afternoon.
