Baghdad (AIN) –The UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Iraq, Martin Kobler, expressed his satisfaction concerning conducting of the special vote of the elections of provincial councils in a smooth manner, praising the role of the Independent High Electoral Commission.

Kobler reported in statement received by AIN on Saturday “The special vote represented the start of the elections process, ” adding that “The IHEC showed high level of professionalism in this process.” (more…)

Baghdad (NINA) – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Martin Kobler, welcomed resuming Iraqi Airways on Wednesday, Feb. 27, its flights from Baghdad to Kuwait after stoppage of more than 22 years.

In a statement on Thursday, Feb. 28, Kobler considered the move as a big achievement for Iraq and Kuwait that opens a new page in their bilateral relations. (more…)

Baghdad (News) … Commended the decision of the Committee on oil and energy Deputy from coalition of Kurdish blocs–Qasim Mohammad Qasim, the United Nations initiative to set up a Committee to follow the law of oil and gas it would press to parliamentary blocs to agree on a draft law to be submitted to the Presidency of the House of representatives to vote on it.

BAGHDAD (Iba) was Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon expressed regret yesterday for lack of tangible progress in the issue of missing Kuwaitis and Kuwaiti property in Iraq.

He recommended Ki-moon in his semi-annual on these issues to the UN Security Council, to continue to fund the international coordinator Supreme Gennady Tarsov until the end of the year.

He said in his report that the increase in cooperation between Kuwait and Iraq and the efforts made by the Iraqi authorities in the search for missing Kuwaitis and other countries in addition to Kuwaiti property «should be hailed and welcomed by». (more…)

Announced that the UN mission in Iraq [UNAMI] that the Special Representative of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Martin Kobler on Wednesday will travel to Kuwait to visit on the Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations.

Baghdad (NINA) – Spokesman for the government, Ali Dabbagh, announced that a second meeting is underway, on the side of the Arab Summit, between Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon.

Dabbagh added that the meeting is being held behind closed doors; he did not elaborate on the topics being discussed in the meeting.

KUWAIT, March 28 (KUNA) — Visiting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on the Iraqi government on Wednesday to implement fully the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions stemming from the invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and settle the sticking issues between the two neighboring countries.
