The New York Times: Maliki departure is alone capable of solving the problems of Iraq

The New York Times felt that the solution to Iraq’s problems lies in the resignation of Maliki’s responsibility.

The newspaper said in analyzing her about what the situation in Iraq, that Iraq is going through a serious crisis and that the solution lies in that step down the prime minister and replaced by another figure elected by Parliament, there are other Shiite politicians who are able to lead a government of national unity. Iraq missed out on the Arab Spring, but it not late for its youth to rise up against their government and turn Iraq, now a failed state, into a prosperous, functioning democracy, Iraqi veteran politician, Adnan al-Pachachi, has said.

The 90-year-old Pachachi, former Iraqi foreign minister and representative to the United Nations, reflected on his longtime political career in memoirs titled “Adnan al-Pachachi in the Eye of the Storm,” published in Arabic in early December 2012. (more…)

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Four of the most senior political leaders in Iraq’s fragile coalition have threatened to bring a vote of no confidence in the government unless “autocratic decision-making” stops, a letter published in a state newspaper on Saturday said.

Iraq’s Shi’ite, Sunni and Kurd coalition began to creak in December, after U.S. troops left, when the government tried to remove Sunni Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq and issued an arrest warrant for Sunni Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi.

Baghdad, Nov. 8 (AKnews) – A spokesman for the US forces in Iraq accused Iran of backing armed groups to undermine Iraq’s sovereignty as the US forces prepare to withdraw from Iraq.

US forces have on several occasions warned against Iran’s role in Iraq and it support for armed groups in the country. BAGHDAD – Under increased US pressure, an Iraqi crackdown on Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias has helped produce a previously elusive goal: For the first time since the US invasion of Iraq, an entire month has passed without a single US service member dying.

The milestone is particularly remarkable because it comes after 14 troops were killed in July, making it the most deadly month for the Americans in three years; and it has occurred amid a frightening campaign of suicide bombings and assassinations from Sunni insurgents that killed hundreds of Iraqis, resurrecting the specter of the worst days of sectarian fighting.

Erbil, July 30 (AKnews) — Iraq is a more dangerous place than it was a year ago, a report released today by a U.S. government watchdog concluded.

Recent months have seen an escalation in bombings, assassinations and kidnappings, it says, leading to a “summer of uncertainty” over whether to ask for an extension of the end-of-year deadline for U.S. troop withdrawal.

U.S. Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction Stuart W. Bowen Jr. made his quarterly report to Congress, concluding: “Iraq remains an extraordinarily dangerous place to work… It is less safe, in my judgment, than 12 months ago.”

Erbil, July 27 (AKnews) – If U.S. forces stay on Iraqi soil beyond the end-of-year deadline the Sadrists will press the Iraqi government to pursue the Americans in the UN Security Council.

Amir Kanani, who leads the Ahrar bloc in the Sadr Current, told AKnews that all parties should wish for and urge the U.S. forces to leave the country because “the U.S. troops’ violations in Iraq has exceeded all limits.”

imageBAGHDAD: Iraqi Transportation Minister Hadi Al-Amari said yesterday that neighbouring Kuwait must stop work on its Mubarak port project because it will block Iraqi access to shipping lanes. “The construction of this port … demonstrates the clear intention of Kuwait to block shipping lanes from Iraqi ports and contradicts UN resolutions,” he told reporters, adding that it would “strangle” Iraq’s main export terminal in the southern city of Basra. “We say we will not accept that Basra and Iraq be strangled in any way,” the minister said angrily.

Parliament currently lists 79 bills registered for consideration with a committee but not yet voted on, 68 which have been through the first reading in parliament , but only 32 which have been through the second . A bill must pass through three “readings” to become law. Some key bills which are on the latter list – those presumably close to becoming law – are listed below.

But note that a disproportionate amount of bills which are not generally considered high-priority have progressed while others have not (i.e. the law on official holidays is through the second reading but the oil law is still in committee).

Questionnaires are filled evaluating the Iraqi cabinet, six months after taking office as the unofficial referendum was announced by Shi’ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and administered by his political followers. Najaf, Iraq.

A leader in the Sadrist Current headed by Muqtada al-Sadr announced on Monday that a seven-day public referendum entitled “People’s Voice Week” begins today into the services provided to Iraqi citizens.

Shiite Cleric calls on Iraq’s PM to settle citizens problems quickly

NAJAF / Aswat al-Iraq: The Leader of the Shiite Sadrist Trend, Young Cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr, has called on Monday on Iraq’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, to take urgent measures to settle the problems of the Iraqi citizens.

“Everybody must know that most of the decisions and orders can’t be implemented, unless they are approved by PM Maliki; otherwise he should propose solutions for the current popular problems,” Sadr said in a statement he addressed to PM Maliki.

“I am confident that if those solutions stem from national and unpoliticised demands, nobody can reject them,” Sadr said.

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s top Shiite religious leaders, the populist cleric Moktada al-Sadr and Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, called Wednesday for Iraqis to defer their protests, leading many members of the country’s Shiite majority to say they would not join in nationwide demonstrations scheduled for Friday.

Many Sunnis said they still planned to go ahead with the demonstrations, which are being billed as a “day of rage.” But the Shiite withdrawal dealt a significant blow to protest organizers, who had hoped to fill Iraq’s streets with millions of people to call for improved government services. Bahrain on alert amid demo calls

DUBAI: Bahrain’s security forces set up checkpoints and clashed with marchers in at least one village yesterday as opposition groups blanketed social media sites with calls to stage the first major anti-government protests in the Gulf since the uprising in Egypt.
