BAGHDAD – Babinaoz (Reuters) – warned U.S. intelligence agencies that the security gains in Iraq could spill over into sectarian violence after the withdrawal of U.S. forces, which U.S. officials say has reduced U.S. influence in the country after the occupation that lasted nearly nine years.

Baghdad, Nov. 6 (AKnews) – Iraq’s Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki urged on Sunday political blocs and Iraqi politicians for more determination and efforts to stand in the face of all challenges to keep the unity of Iraq.

Maliki’s call coincides with demands from local officials in some, mainly Sunni, Iraqi provinces to create their own federal regions following accusations that the Maliki government is repressing the Sunnis.

Maliki said in an address during a reception ceremony on the occasion of Eid al-Adha holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide, that “Iraq needs more determination and efforts to face all the challenges it faces, in particular, challenges to its national unity, unity of its lands and air spaces” (more…)
